FAQ

Q1: What is your cancellation policy?
A: All cancellations must be confirmed 24 hours before scheduled class time. Cancellations within 24 hours will be charged 50% of the class fee. Full class fee is due if no cancellation has been confirmed.

Q2: How are the classes scheduled?
A: Classes can be scheduled through phone or email. Space is not guaranteed until you receive confirmation through phone or email.

Q3: What form of payment is accepted?
A: We currently only accept checks or cash.

Q4: What is the textbook/material you use?
A: Because our class is highly customized to meet various goals, we don’t have a pre-fixed material or textbook for all our students. Textbooks will be recommended by your instructor after consultation.

Q5: Do you teach Simplified or Traditional Chinese characters?
A: Again, because our class is highly customized, this choice is made based on student’s personal goals. For example, if you’re planning on moving to Qingdao instead of Taipei, we’re more likely to recommend you learn Simplified over Traditional Chinese characters.

Q6: What is the accent you teach?
A: For the longest time, the Beijing accent was the most popular accent students preferred to learn. This is due to the fact that Beijing has been the capital of China since the Ming Dynasty. Recently, however, there has been a change of trend in the Mainland Chinese media, and the Taiwanese accent is becoming more popular. There was originally a ban for using or imitating the Taiwanese accent on Mainland Chinese TV and Radio shows, but eventually it became too hard to control. We try to stay away from having a preference of accent, and teach the standard Mandarin pronunciation. The best example for such “non-accent” pronunciation is that of a Chinese news anchor, which is identical in any part of China.
